Funfest to Honor Corky Yager

March 28, 2016

Earlier this month, the Yager family and the Volkswagen community said goodbye to an icon, with the passing of Corky Yager. Founder of Dade City, Florida’s Sunray Bugs, Corky was Mike Yager’s older brother and the flame that ignited Mike’s passion for VWs. As Mid America Motorworks prepares to welcome thousands of Volkswagens to Funfest for Air-Cooled VW on June 3-5, it seems only fitting that the event should celebrate Corky Yager. Sunray Funfest: A Corky Kind of Year kicks off Friday, June 3rd with a Fun Run that leads to the annual Downtown Party on the Effingham Square. Hosted by the Effingham Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Downtown Party features local food and entertainment, and serves as the first chance for registered guests to receive a Celebrity Choice Award. Participants enjoy a whirlwind weekend of special displays, car show, Swapfest, expert seminars, product demonstrations and more. Celebrity Choice Awards take place Friday and Saturday with a brand new presentation style that puts the lucky VW owner and his/her VW on display at the new Winners Wall. Camping, another Funfest tradition, is free on the grounds Thursday through Saturday nights to registered Funfest attendees. The weekend culminates with the Saturday evening concert, where VW lovers are treated to headlining entertainment, rain or shine.
