We are saddened today, as we learned of the passing of Rick Wallace, better known as just plain Wally. We first met Rick when he still worked at Chick Iverson Volkswagen in Newport Beach, California. He had just completed his radical 1962 India Red Ragtop VW, which became our cover car in October 1976. Rick's attention to detail was incredible, and this car won Best of Show at Bug-In 15. Later on, Rick began to paint cars, motorcycles, racecars, and just about anything cool, at his shop in Hesperia, California, later named "Wally World Designs". Rick even painted our 1986 Nissan truck for 3Wheeling magazine back in 1986. In more recent times, Rick became very involved with the UTV industry, taking people on off-road tours. Rick loved Baja, off-roading and just plain having a good time with his friends. Rick was 60 years old, and passed away due to complications with cancer.
Rick's famous 1962 California Look Ragtop VW set the stage for many to follow. His use of India Red, with Porsche wheels, brakes and gauges quickly caught on in the industry. This car today, is considered to be one of the most famous California Look sedans ever built.
