As 2014 came to a close, we were saddened to hear that Roger Grago had passed away. Among the five custom VWs chosen for the first official California Look issue of Hot VWs, Roger’s 1962 Ghia was among those who went down in history as creating a new style for VWs. Shortly after that February 1975 issue came out, Roger and his first Ghia became even more famous when they were in a terrible accident leaving Bug-In 18 on the dirt access road. That crash destroyed his VW, and severely injured Roger, but thanks to a lot of his close friends and a strong will to live, Roger fully healed and a new Ghia coupe was built. Years later, Roger got more involved with Porsche 911s, and became very well known within the Porsche circles as well. He was once a member of the Der Guteeneine VW Club, as well as being the President of the DKP 2, and later one, a member of the RGruppe Porsche club. Over the last four years Roger battled brain cancer, and with strong support from his wife Terrie, and daughter Allison along with step children Katherine and James Gonzales, he gave it everything he could, but this past December 21st he lost that battle. Roger was 61, and will be missed by all of us who knew him.
This past Saturday, a large group of VW and Porsche friends got together and cruised through the streets of southern Orange County, to attend a service for him at the Christ Community Church in Laguna Hills, CA.
