Bugorama Promotions rolled into Auto Club Dragway in Fontana, California on April 26th for their second event of the season, the Paradise Motorsports Bugorama SoCal. For 2015, there were some changes to the layout of this event, which like all Bugoramas included 1/4-mile drag racing, car show, new product vendors and a swap meet. The new layout moved the show area just east of the grandstands, and the swap meet just on the other side of the utility road, alongside the oval speedway track. Spectators now had to drive all the way around the facility to park on the west side of the dragstrip, but it was much closer walk to get into the show/swap area than the previous layout, and most people we talked to preferred the new design.
Kevin Barrett of Covina, CA, took the CB 044 Pro Gas win over Scott Bakken of Glendora in his colorful '56 Bug. Times were 10.997/120.63mph for Barrett vs. Bakken's 11.107/119.16mph effort.
In the show area there was a good array of different cars, with an estimate of around 150. Taking top honors was Spence McFarland of Carson, California, with his outstanding 1954 Euro Bug towing a matching 1955 Sears Allstate trailer. Spencer went home with the Promoter's Choice trophy. On the track, a total of 61 drag racers showed for the quarter-mile action, which was impressive to say the least with both Bugorama Racing Series (BRS) and sportsman action. Although there were a few oil-downs that required the usual clean-up downtime, it was worth the wait to watch the exciting 6-second side-by-side passes by the dragsters of Daniel Folts and Chad Davis. In the final they were only 0.054 seconds apart!
Two rails entered the Eserini Racing Top Eliminator class, with both Daniel Folts of La Habra and Chad Davis of Riverside running side-by-side 6-second passes! The action continued to the final, where Folts got he win with a 6.737/198.96 mph to Davis' red light 6.891 pass at an amazing 204.08mph.
Overall, it was a good event on a warm spring day, with plenty of action on and off the strip. Besides main sponsors Paradise Motorsports, we'd like to thank all companies that helped make this another great event at Auto Club Dragway, including Bugformance Sacramento, CB Performance, AA Performance Products, Scat Enterprises, Pierside Parts Unlimited, Chico Performance Racing, IAP Performance Products, Kühltek, Wolfgang International, West Coast Core, and of course the crew at Bugorama Promotions.
